Errors put Cardinals behind, cut Wacha's start short

PHILADELPHIA • While Michael Wacha still didn't have the sharpness or economy to make the most of his start against the Phillies, he also didn't get any help when he needed it most from the defense.

Two errors at second base by Greg Garcia have led directly to all of the Phillies runs as they've opened up a 5-1 lead through 4 1/2 innings.

Wacha did his part by allowing nine hits in four innings, but when he had chances to break loose of that trouble the errors created more. Garcia's misplay of a grounder in the first inning led to three unearned runs the Phillies' early 3-0 lead.
