Dylan Carlson stayed ready, confident his time would come despite early bench role: Cardinals Extra

Dylan Carlson broke camp with the Cardinals as the fourth outfielder. Best case scenario, he’d get in as a late-game defensive replacement and occasionally start in order to give the everyday outfielders a day off. That’s the role he’d been given.

A little more than a 30 games into the season, Carlson has grabbed the job as the club’s everyday center fielder and has helped solidify an outfielder that has featured a bevy of moving parts since the start of the season with Tyler O’Neill and Lars Nootbaar having started games in center field and a total of seven players having started in the three outfield spots.
