The Cardinals activated outfielder Dylan Carlson from the injured list prior to Friday night’s game against Cincinnati. He’d been out since he suffered a left ankle sprain May 14. He stepped right back into the starting lineup, but not at the center field position he’d appeared to settle into prior to his injury.
Carlson went on a three-game minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis earlier this week. He played five innings in the field Tuesday, served as designated hitter for Wednesday’s game and played the entire game in the outfield Thursday.
The Cardinals optioned outfielder/first baseman Juan Yepez to Triple-A to clear a roster spot for Carlson.
