In a draft in which the team had no first day picks and by far the smallest bonus pool in the league, the Cardinals' emphasis has seemingly been on position players who are likely to sign with the team.
Clemson center fielder Chase Pinder, the 279th-ranked prospect by Baseball America, fits the bill. The senior is the younger brother of Chad Pinder, who made his big-league debut this season with the Oakland Athletics.
Pinder is a solid hitter known for grinding through tough at bats and drawing walks. He is a smart baserunner but not seen as rangy enough to play center field in the big leagues.
