The Dodgers jumped on Cardinals starting pitcher Mike Mayers for nine runs in 1 1/3 innings in his major league debut Sunday night and went on to post a 9-6 win at Busch Stadium.
Mayers allowed the first five batters to reach base, and Adrian Gonzalez hit a grand slam to start the onslaught. Pitcher Scott Kazmir had a two-run single in the first and Howie Kendrick's two-run homer in the second ended Mayers' night.
Four St. Louis relievers pitched 7 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, led by Seth Maness, who worked 3 2/3 for his longest stint in the majors.
