Aledmys Diaz’s first grand slam as a major leaguer Tuesday night was for Jose Fernandez. And Cuba. And, of course, for a Cardinals team in need of Diaz’s plasma donation.
A day after leaving Miami, where he visited the family of the late Miami Marlins pitcher and Diaz’s longtime friend from their boyhood days in Cuba, Diaz vowed to play every game to the max to honor the memory of Fernandez. And he pledged to have fun doing it, just as the flamboyant righthander did in his all-too-short life.
What could be more fun than hitting a grand slam, as Diaz did in the fourth inning?
