JUPITER, Fla. • Cardinals chairman Bill DeWitt Jr. has authorized a $2-million check to be paid directly to the Houston Astros as damages for whatever loss or trouble was caused by the illegal computer hacking done by a Cardinals' employee.
DeWitt said he expected that the check has been delivered -- and if not it would be soon straight to the Astros.
"It's history," DeWitt said. "We're moving on."
The monetary fine, along with two draft picks, are the penalties assessed by Major League Baseball's commissioner after the result of an investigation launched this past summer.
