DeJong has powered his way past Mets

NEW YORK • Cardinals rookie shortstop Paul DeJong, who has extra-base hits in five straight games against the New York Mets, will be looking to extend that streak Wednesday night against righthander Jacob deGrom, against whom the streak began on July 7 in St. Louis.

In his first at-bat against deGrom, DeJong hit the first of four Cardinals home runs off the righthander that night.

DeJong later doubled off deGrom and, over the five-game span against the Mets, he has four homers and five doubles, going 11 for 22.

With his 22 extra-base hits in his first 41 games, DeJong has two more than did Los Angeles’ Cody Bellinger and the Chicago Cubs’ Ian Happ in their first 41.
