At the start of the Cardinals’ 4-3 victory against Milwaukee on Tuesday night at Busch Stadium, Ponce de Leon quickly established his fastball and methodically asserted his place on the depth chart. The new, new Ponce de Leon allowed one run through five innings and with seven strikeouts came one shy of tying a career-high. His work early helped the Cardinals snap a tie late with Paul DeJong’s solo homer in the eighth inning. Yadier Molina’s third hit of the game – an RBI double – added needed buffer before Jordan Hicks secured his sixth save.
For the third consecutive game, the Cardinals’ opponent got all of its runs via homer as Travis Shaw hit two of the Brewers’ three homers.
