Defensive miscues hit in seventh, Cardinals' lead down to 2-1

The Cardinals were in a groove, until suddenly they weren't.

With two outs in the top of the seventh, Carlos Martinez tried to catch a comeback line drive but it deflected off his glove toward third base. The next batter, left fielder Nick Franklin, hit a slow ground ball to first baseman Matt Carpenter, but Carpenter dropped it and Franklin was safe.

Martinez, slightly rattled, then gave up a soft single down the left field line, allowing an unearned run to score. Martinez then rebounded though and got shortstop Orlando Arcia to strike out and end the inning.
