It has been 35 years since two sportscasting icons, Bob Costas and Tim McCarver, worked together. But the drought is to end Thursday night at Busch Stadium, when Costas does the play-by-play and McCarver the analysis for MLB Network’s telecast of the Cardinals-San Diego game.
However, that production is to be blacked out in the St. Louis region because Fox Sports Midwest has the exclusive local rights (Dan McLaughlin and Al Hrabosky are on that call). MLB Network instead shows the Washington-Atlanta game on systems that carry the Cardinals on FSM.
MLB Network’s version of the telecast will be the first time for Costas and McCarver to be on the air together since doing two NBC “Game of the Week” broadcasts in 1980.
