BOCA RATON, Fla. • As a result of the hacking allegations that seeped into his sport this past summer and questions that invited about intellectual property and the movement of data jockeys from one club to another, Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred spoke to general managers Tuesday morning about modernizing employee contracts to protect themselves against analytic theft.
He intends to do the same thing next week with the owners.
“I’ve already had some conversations with owners about the need for individual clubs to protect their intellectual property in individual employee contracts,” Manfred said in response to a question from The Post-Dispatch about how teams can protect their cherished databases in this age of increasing analytics.
