Lefthander Brett Cecil, a disappointment much of the season for the Cardinals after signing a four-year, $30.5 million free-agent deal, turned in a strong outing in relief Tuesday night as the Cardinals continued to trail the Milwaukee Brewers 5-2 in the sixth inning of the second game of a day-night doubleheader.
Cecil allowed only an infield hit over two innings. But he caught that runner off base and then struck out the final two batters he faced.
BREWERS PUMMEL GONZALES IN FOURTH
Jesus Aguilar and Travis Shaw hit the second and third Milwaukee homers off Cardinals lefthander Marco Gonzales in two innings as the Brewers went ahead 5-2 Tuesday night.
