Reliever Brett Cecil came in for Adam Wainwright in the top of the seventh with trouble afoot.
Wainwright, clearly tiring, gave up a leadoff single to catcher Nick Hundley and then walked right fielder Mac Williamson. He was able to strike out pinch hitter Michael Morse looking before the Giants' lineup turned over with two lefties waiting at the top.
Then Cecil entered to face those lefties, center fielder Denard Span and second baseman Joe Panik. Span flew out to left and Panik hit a comebacker to Cecil to end the inning and keep the score at 7-1 Cardinals.
