CHICAGO -- Lou Brock has some company in the Cardinals' record books after Matt Carpenter stung Cubs starter Jon Lester with a leadoff home run to open Friday afternoon's game at Wrigley Field.
The blast was Carpenter's 21st career leadoff homer, tying him with Brock for the most in franchise history. With six leadoff homers this season, Carpenter has also established a new single-season franchise record. Brock (1967, '70), Ray Lankford ('94) and Carpenter (2015) had each tallied five in a season.
It turns out that the homer was just the beginning of Carpenter's big day.
