The Cardinals caught _ and almost passed _ the Milwaukee Brewers in the fourth inning Sunday at Busch Stadium after the Brewers had gone ahead in their half of the inning.
Matt Carpenter’s two-out single scored Tommy Pham, who had drawn one of two walks the Cardinals coaxed in the inning off Chase Anderson. Aledmys Diaz, who already had one home run, bid for another but left fielder Ryan Braun made a jumping catch at the track to keep the score at 2-2.
Milwaukee had an opportunity to retake the lead in the fifth when they loaded the bases with one out on singles by Bruan and Jonathan Lucroy and a walk to Chris Carter.
