KANSAS CITY -- New venue. Same result.
Matt Carpenter helped open the Cardinals' Interleague Series in Kansas City with his league-leading 32nd home run, a two-run blast to highlight the team's five-run second inning. With the homer, Carpenter has reached base safely in 28 consecutive games and now gone deep in six of seven games on the Cardinals' current road trip.
During that stretch, he has surpassed Colorado's Nolan Arenado for the National League lead in home runs. Arenado began Friday with 29.
The last Cardinals player to lead the NL in home runs was Albert Pujols, who hit 42 in 2010.
