MILWAUKEE • Cardinals starter Mike Leake came out in the seventh inning of Sunday’s game. So did first baseman Matt Carpenter and manager Mike Matheny.
The first exit was planned by Matheny, as Leake, leading the Milwaukee Brewers 4-2, neared 100 pitches. The last two were unscheduled departures in the top of the seventh, as Carpenter, upset with strike two and strike three called by home-plate umpire John Tumpane, fired his bat to the ground as he showed his displeasure and was ejected.
Soon enough, Matheny, who is not really allowed to contest balls and strikes, arrived on the scene and he, too, was tossed.
