Carpenter gets a breather, and Wong rises to leadoff

DENVER • It wasn't too long ago that Matt Carpenter suggested it might be a bit longer before the oblique strain that cost him a month this season would be forgotten, something he didn't carry with him to the plate.

He hasn't been limited by the injury or in pain as a result of it, but he said it still cost him time and timing and that may not be corrected until next season.

Carpenter had two hits Monday night at Coors Field, and that included a key RBI single to score Carlos Martinez. That raised his average, but overall in the past two months he's seen his production dip.
