Cards' Walden bouncing back

JUPITER, Fla. • On a day when the Cardinals’ offense was silenced by impressive young Detroit lefthander Matt Boyd, one of the pitchers the Tigers acquired from Toronto for David Price last July, the Cardinals’ bullpen painted a canvas of what might be displayed in the regular season.

Not that starter Adam Wainwright ordinarily would need relief help in the fifth inning after allowing just two runs in a 2-0 Detroit win. But lefthander Tyler Lyons, the presumed long man, recorded the last out of that inning and then tossed another scoreless frame before going to the back fields and throwing another inning in a minor league game.
