Cardinals officials said they were surprised by Reds manager Bryan Price’s comments that labeled Jason Heyward’s late slide into third base and third baseman Todd Frazier during Sunday’s game “dirty.” In the fifth inning, Heyward drilled an RBI double and attempted to take third when he believed the throw would go home, targeting the lead runner. Brandon Phillips, the cutoff man, shifted and threw to third in time to get Heyward – surprising the Cardinals outfielder into a late slide. Heyward said he expected the throw to go home “and not leave any questions.
