LOS ANGELES -- Jedd Gyorko and Matt Carpenter gave Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen a rude welcome back, as the pair's back-to-back solo homers in the ninth inning delivered the Cardinals a 5-3 win over the Dodgers on Monday.
The victory gives the Cardinals a big win to open their road trip out west, and puts them just 3 1/2 games behind the Cubs for the National League Central lead, the closest they've been to the division lead since June 12.
Gyorko and Carpenter were the first batters Jansen faced in his return from a DL trip due to an irregular heartbeat, and the pair both found a way to give 92-mph cutters a ride to the stands in left-center.
