Dominic Leone is in the midst of recovering from nerve damage in his pitching arm -- and the Cardinals have described his recovery as "long term" and "uncertain" because the damage done to the nerve and resulting trouble with his biceps muscle is similar to the injury Chris Carpenter had years ago.
Leone's injury allowed him to move to the 60-day disabled list and free up a spot on the 40-man roster for Reyes.
The Cardinals had initially signaled that John Gant would remain a starter and need to get innings at Class AAA Memphis.
