The Cardinals started the sixth inning with a couple of well-hit doubles then went on to use a series of paper cuts to score four runs and take a 5-3 lead on the Giants on Sunday night at Busch Stadium.
Back-to-back doubles by Matt Carpenter (to right) and Aledmys Diaz (to left) got things started. Diaz's double scored Carpenter to make it 3-2 and when Matt Holliday walked, that was it for Giants starter Jake Peavy.
It wasn't it for the Cardinals though, who then got three more runs without the ball leaving the infield. Stephen Piscotty took a 98 mph fastball from reliever Hunter Strickland off his right (rear) elbow to load the bases.
