Cards' Reyes will undergo Tommy John surgery

JUPITER, Fla. -- Cardinals right-hander Alex Reyes will undergo Tommy John elbow surgery, the team said Wednesday morning.

Reyes, who underwent an MRI exam on the elbow on Tuesday, first notified the Redbirds of arm discomfort late last week, and the club recommended the imaging scan after running Reyes through a physical exam at their complex.

Reyes has been pitching with a compromised ligament in his right elbow since at least 2013, when he was diagnosed with an elbow strain. He made his season debut on June 20 of that year.
