Cards rally twice to tie, but finally lose in 12

The Cardinals got off the deck twice on Wednesday night, scoring in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game and then tying it again in the bottom of the 10th before the Royals scored in the 12th to win 3-2.

The Royals got the winning run on a one-out double by Whit Merrifield, who came in as a pinch hitter in the eighth and went 2 for 3. Merrifield took third on a wild pitch by Seth Maness and then scored on a double to right by Alcides Escobar. Cardinals right fielder Stephen Piscotty made a long run and then tried a sliding catch for the ball but couldn't make it, and the ball bounced off his glove and into foul territory.
