Boyd struck out 11 and allowed just one hit over the first seven innings as the Tigers beat the Cardinals for the second successive night at Comerica Park. Paul DeJong broke up the shutout with an opposite-field homer in the eighth off Boyd. And Marcell Ozuna, with the Cardinals down to their last out, hit a two-run homer to left in the ninth off Shane Greene to tie the score at 3-3.
This was the 12th time in their last 14 meetings at Comerica that the Tigers had beaten the Cardinals.
