The Cuban-born Garcia, a 25-year-old who was signed in February 2017, recently was named the Cardinals’ minor league player of the month for July and the Pacific Coast League player of the month and just had a hitting streak snapped at 14 games Sunday.
Garcia, who played five pro seasons in Cuba before going to Japan in 2016, was signed out of a showcase in the Dominican Republic in the winter of 2017 and got a $2.5 million bonus from the Cardinals. His brother and role model, Adonis, 33, played briefly with the Atlanta Braves in 2016-17 and now is in Korea.
