Their 3-4 combination of Paul Goldschmidt and Marcell Ozuna, back together again, accounted for three of the runs. Goldschmidt singled past shortstop Kevin Newman to bring home Dexter Fowler with the go-ahead run. Then, Ozuna, playing his first game at home after coming off the injured list, blasted a 3-1 Richard Rodriguez pitch to left for his 22nd homer.
Fowler, who has had five hits in three games after being moved back to the leadoff spot, doubled to right to open the eighth. After Tommy Edman flied out, Goldschmidt got the Cardinals’ only hit of the night which plated a runner.
