The St. Louis Cardinals placed left-handed pitcher Tyler Lyons on the 10-day disabled list with a right intercostal strain and recalled right-hander Sam Tuivailala from Triple-A Memphis, the clubs announced Tuesday.
Lyons began the 2017 season on the DL as he recovered from right knee surgery, and he had appeared in two games since joining the team on April 20. The 29-year-old allowed one run in three innings for the Cardinals before his most recent injury.
Tuivailala, who was a member of St. Louis' Opening Day roster, gave up one run over three frames for the club last month.
