LOS ANGELES • Mike Matheny’s eldest son, Tate, is a likely second-day selection — perhaps a first-day one — in the baseball amateur draft Monday through Wednesday.
But unlike an earlier impression created that the Cardinals manager did not want his team drafting the Missouri State outfielder, as they did when he was a 23rd-rounder out of high school three years ago, Matheny said Saturday that he and his wife would love for Tate to be in the Cardinals’ organization.
Matheny, who has been an unofficial adviser to his son, said, “This whole thing keeps coming across like it’s my wishes (that the Cardinals not draft his son).
