WASHINGTON • When his son called Monday to let him know the many years of working wherever he could were about to take him to the one place Mitch Harris always wanted, Cy Harris thought his boy was kidding around. It wouldn’t be the first time. As Cy realized his son, a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, was about to add a rare line to his resumé, that’s when the gravity hit Mitch, too.
His next flight would land in the majors.
“Then it sunk into both of us — all this time, all this hard work, all this heartache at times had got me here,” Mitch Harris said Tuesday at Nationals Park.
