Cardinals righthander Mike Leake, making his 10th start of the season, had his worst, when he gave up four runs and six hits in seven innings of a 5-1 loss Monday to Los Angeles. If that pace continues, Leake, who had given up three or fewer runs in each of the first nine, said, “I’ll take that. That would be a pretty fun thing to do.”
Manager Mike Matheny said, “He’s had a tough pace to keep up with, with what he’s been able to do this year. He’s been as good as anybody in the league.”
Leake (5-3) served up two of the Dodgers’ three homers of at least 424 feet, to Chase Utley, whom he has owned over their careers, and rookie Cody Bellinger.
