Cardinals manager Mike Matheny “has been on me all spring, ‘I need to see it, I need to see it,’” Carpenter explained Tuesday afternoon. “I didn’t feel I needed to prove I can whiz it over there. But I fired a few and looked in there to make sure that he saw. The other one? I knew in my head it was enough.”
The Cardinals closed out their spring schedule Tuesday evening with the second game of an exhibition series against Toronto at the Expos’ Olympic Stadium. The visit was part reunion with former Cardinals like Randal Grichuk, Aledmys Diaz and Seung Hwan Oh, part showcase of the Cardinals’ rotation, and all exhibition of Carpenter’s versatility going into the season.
