Cards muscle up for sweep of Angels

ANAHEIM, Calif. • The start was not what the Cardinals or Adam Wainwright desired, and the finish Thursday was almost as ugly as they could imagine.

All the offense in between overcame both.

Matt Holliday homered twice and reached base five times as the Cardinals completed a three-game sweep of the host Angels with a 12-10 victory. At bat, the Cardinals trio of Matts – Holliday, Carpenter, and Adams – combined for three home runs, nine hits, and nine RBIs at Angel Stadium. The cloudburst of offense erased two early deficits and also braced the Cardinals for wobbly pitching, from the beginning to end.
