CINCINNATI • The Cardinals shot themselves in the foot twice in the fourth inning Saturday as a potentially big inning turned into nothing, with a large assist from Cincinnati Reds center fielder Billy Hamilton.
First, in a game tied at 1-1, Randal Grichuk doubled to left center. But Jhonny Peralta failed to advance him, being called out on strikes. Greg Garcia walked and then Albert Rosario shot a ball directly over the head of Hamilton. But the Reds’ speedster backpedaled and made a stunning, leaping catch as he barreled toward the center-field wall.
Grichuk, who had gone toward third, then backtracked to tag up at second.
