The Cardinals tried to treat Day 1 of the Major League Baseball draft on Monday, a day in which they had no picks in the first two rounds because of penalties stemming from the Houston Astros espionage case, as an ordinary day. They put on their best clothes, sat in the draft room, pretended they had a pick in the 20s, and took part in what scouting director Randy Flores called “role playing.”
Tuesday was a step back to reality for the Cardinals, with picks in order along with everyone else’s, but the day still had a different feel.
