Cards let sweep slip away against Tigers

The Cardinals have been saddled with many more doubleheaders than they would have liked, due to their coronavirus problems this year which, at one point, shut them down for 17 days. Yet, their record on doubleheader-day games is 8-6, or better than 11-12 when they’re playing just one game.

But anybody who watched or listened to it on Thursday knows that doubleheader-day record should be 9-5. It should have been a sweep of a Detroit Tigers team that had been outscored 34-3 in three games with all the Tiger runs scoring on Jeimer Candelario home runs Thursday — until the final inning of the seven-inning nightcap.
