SAN FRANCISCO • Although pressed into an unexpected search for a scouting director shortly after this summer’s draft, the Cardinals were able to maintain the continuity they value so much.
They made a call to the bullpen.
Former reliever Randy Flores will be introduced Tuesday by general manager John Mozeliak as the team’s new director of scouting. Flores, 40, will oversee the team’s evaluation of amateur talent and the annual draft, what has become the lifeblood of the Cardinals’ success in recent seasons. The team announced his hiring Friday after a search that did include a look at other organizations for candidates but ultimately circled back, as the Cardinals often have, to someone with family ties.
