Cardinals setup man Jordan Walden had an exam of his injured right shoulder Friday that assured the reliever the healing process is progressing and the strengthening process can begin.
In the meantime, the Cardinals continue to audition his substitute.
The Cardinals turned to lefty Kevin Siegrist to handle the eighth inning Friday in a 3-0 victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Siegrist struck out two batters in his scoreless hold, though the Cardinals had righthander Seth Maness and lefty Randy Choate at the ready if Siegrist faltered. Manager Mike Matheny listed Siegrist and Maness as well as veteran righty Matt Belisle as the candidates he’ll likely mix and match to handle Walden’s eighth inning until the burly righthander returns.
