CINCINNATI • Jedd Gyorko, a late-inning defensive replacement who was unable to come up with what became a game-tying single by Jesse Winker in the ninth, made amends by singling home the go-ahead run in the 10th inning Friday night as the Cardinals outlasted the Cincinnati Reds 7-6.
Marcell Ozuna walked with one out and Yadier Molina singled before Gyorko shot a single to left. The Cardinals’ win was their 12th straight over Cincinnati, eight of them this season, and they have won 10 straight games at Great American Ball Park.
With veterans Greg Holland and Luke Gregerson being of little help because of injury and ineffectiveness, relatively low-budget signing Bud Norris has bailed out the Cardinals’ bullpen this season.
