Carlos Martinez, in quest of his first shutout and complete game of his big-league career Saturday night, allowed just two hits and no runs in nine innings against the San Francisco Giants. But he got neither the shutout nor the complete game although the game went scoreless to the 13th at Busch Stadium after play was halted by rain for 42 minutes after the 10th inning.
Jeff Samardzija and Giants relievers blanked the Cardinals for 1q innings, abetted by a leaping catch from center fielder Denard Span, who robbed Aledmys Diaz of an extra-base hit before banging into the wall to end the 10th.
