The Cardinals barely got the ball out of the infield in the third inning on Wednesday night at Busch Stadium, but they made up for it with volume and took a 2-0 lead over the Pirates at Busch Stadium.
It was an inning of misfortune for the Pirates, who could have gotten out of the inning by making just one play when they needed it. Instead, they committed a series of mistakes of omission that cost them.
Michael Wacha started the inning with a walk. After Matt Carpenter flew out to center, Kolten Wong hit a ground ball to short.
