DETROIT -- One of the most crucial elements to the Cardinals' second-half push for a postseason spot has been the bullpen. But it's been almost a week since manager Mike Shildt wouldn't commit to Bud Norris as the team's closer, and back-to-back walk-off losses to the Tigers haven't done much to clear up the uncertainty in the back end of the relief squad.
That's why, for the time being, Shildt is committing to a day-by-day approach in the late innings.
"We're looking at guys who have experience down there, with Carlos [Martinez] and Jordan [Hicks], and Bud's had his hiccups, and we'll evaluate that," Shildt said Sunday before the Cardinals' series finale against the Tigers at Comerica Park.
