Cards call up Tuivailala, send down Lyons

The Cardinals made one roster move on Sunday to address a need while hinting at another move to come.

With a bullpen that has been stretched to the max by a string of short starts, the Cardinals called up right-handed reliever Sam Tuivailala from Memphis and sent down Tyler Lyons, who started Saturday's game against the Tigers. Lyons lasted just 3 2/3 innings in the game. Lyons didn't go longer than five innings in any of his past three starts.

Tuivailala provides immediate help, but the move also hints at what could be down the road. Jaime Garcia did very well in his most recent rehab start, and sending Lyons down points to Garcia stepping in to the rotation on Thursday, when Lyons' spot comes around again.
