As part of a series of transactions that brought Yadier Molina and Carlos Martinez back to the active roster to start that night against Miami, the Cardinals also added Guilmet to the 40-man roster and the big-league bullpen. To make room for the three players, the Cardinals optioned catcher Carson Kelly and reliever Mike Mayers to Class AAA Memphis and placed infielder Greg Garcia on paternity leave. Molina’s health allowed the Cardinals to designate catcher Steve Baron for assignment and open a spot on the 40-man roster for Guilmet.
Guilmet, 30, had a 0.93 ERA in 21 games (29 innings) for the Triple-A Redbirds.
