With managers in the 2020 baseball postseason seemingly pulling starting pitchers out of left field, it reminds us of what happened exactly 14 years ago Wednesday in Detroit.
The Cardinals, having been extended to seven games before outlasting the New York Mets in the National League championship series, had gone through their top three starting pitchers in Games 5 through 7, in that order, in Jeff Weaver, Chris Carpenter and Jeff Suppan, the Most Valuable Player of the series. But rain had canceled a day off toward the end of that series, which would have brought the Cardinals back to Weaver again.
