Second baseman Kolten Wong, who has been fighting a respiratory infection, will be back in the lineup when the Cardinals face the Washington Nationals on Saturday.
Wong, who acknowledged he has had issues with irregular breathing, has lost some eight pounds over the past few days. His last start was on April 23 against the San Diego Padres and he had started just 14 of the previous 23 games.
Off to a slow start with a .216 average, Wong will play second base and bat eighth against Washington righthander Joe Ross.
The Cardinals also will return catcher Yadier Molina to the lineup, with the veteran catching lefthander Jaime Garcia and batting fifth.
