“Sometimes I need to be smart because I want to throw, I want to compete, and when the arm says, ‘No,’ I need to say no, too,” Martinez said. “I can slow down a little bit. I can rest. I feel tired, but not hurt, not in pain. I can be ready. If I feel good, I can help the team, a lot.”
Martinez secured his ninth save of the season Monday and his third in four days. Martinez leads the majors with seven saves this month, six since the All-Star break, and he’s got at least two more than any other closer.
