During the 3-hour, 21-minute rain delay that sent a day game into the night, Cardinals center fielder Randal Grichuk had time to review video of each at-bat, kill time scrolling through social media and watch a highlight of his homer-robbing catch, all before its importance was cemented.
The Cardinals took an early lead immediately after Grichuk stole a home run at the wall in the first inning, then held on late for a 5-3 victory against the Cubs.
The Cardinals spent more time delayed (201 minutes) than they did playing (160 minutes) on Wednesday. But some six hours after Grichuk reached over Busch Stadium’s wall, that catch proved critical to the Cardinals’ first victory of the season against the first-place Cubs.
